NYSIF Wins 3 Communications Awards

July 13, 2011

The New York State Insurance Fund announced today that it earned international recognition for outstanding communications as the winner of three awards from the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF).

The AASCIF Communication Awards competition judged 96 entries from 20 member agencies across the United States and Canada. AASCIF is an association of 27 state workers’ compensation funds and 10 Canadian workers’ compensation boards.

NYSIF publications won awards, including a first place and third place award, respectively, in the external brochure and annual report categories. NYSIF also won a third place award in the print media advertising category.

NYSIF won a first place award for its “Understanding Your Bill” brochure, a publication that helps businesses understand how workers’ compensation rates are determined, and guides policyholders step-by-step to help them understand their billing statements. The guide, recently updated and redesigned, won for a second time as an entry in the contest. An earlier version took third place honors in 2008. The brochure is available free for download at www.nysif.com.

NYSIF’s 2009 Annual Report, published in print and electronically, won a third place award in the contest. The 2009 Annual Report is also available from NYSIF’s web site.

Rounding out the three winning entries, NYSIF earned a third place for its acclaimed “Thinker/Straight Talk” series in the print media advertising category. The series offers businesses and brokers a no-nonsense view on topics such as self-insurance risk, workers’ compensation costs, safety group programs, market stability and fraud.

The awards ceremony took place at AASCIF’s 2011 conference, held June 19-23, at Isle of Palm, South Carolina. NYSIF received the awards in absentia.

The annual awards competition recognizes the most creative and effective communications programs by workers’ compensation funds and boards from North America. The Colorado Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America judged this year’s winners.

The New York State Insurance Fund is a non-profit agency of the state of New York that was created as part of the Workers’ Compensation Law of 1914.
