NYSIF Announces Release of Annual Report Online

September 25, 2007

NYSIF Executive Director/CEO David P. Wehner today announced that NYSIF’s 2006 Annual Report is now available online.

“I am pleased to announce the publication of our 2006 annual report,” CEO Wehner said. “The report highlights NYSIF’s status as New York’s premier workers’ compensation and disability benefits insurance carrier.”

The report underscores NYSIF’s dedication over more than nine decades to protecting New York businesses and injured workers and their families against the hardships posed by on-the-job injuries, and, since 1949, to providing disability benefits insurance for off-the-job-injuries.

NYSIF Board Chairman Robert H. Hurlbut stated that the carrier “competently demonstrates a dutiful commitment to the service of the people of New York State by adhering to central values of customer service, workplace safety, fiscal integrity, and administering appropriate medical care and timely payments of benefits to injured workers.”

Pointing out that NYSIF insured more than 223,000 businesses with either workers’ compensation or disability benefits polices, or both, in 2006, the report cites stability and savings as some of the reasons why New York employers turn to NYSIF more than any other carrier for their workers’ compensation insurance needs.

Created as part of the original New York State Workers’ Compensation Law to provide a safety net for businesses unable to buy insurance elsewhere, NYSIF has been the workers’ compensation carrier for hundreds of thousands of New York businesses since 1914. The report emphasizes, however, that NYSIF has become a carrier of choice for New York employers thanks to a corresponding level of professionalism and expertise.

The report credits several areas responsible for helping NYSIF maintain its edge as the leading workers’ compensation carrier in New York State: safety, outreach and an unrelenting commitment to customer service. Specifically, CEO Wehner states, NYSIF provided the market “with quality service, expanded outreach, enhanced electronic and educational tools, a record-setting anti-fraud program, and continued financial strength in 2006.”

“We are proud to present the 2006 Annual Report, highlighting NYSIF’s success in these areas,” he said.

In particular, NYSIF re-engineered its web site in 2006 to become a more expansive resource of information about workers’ compensation and disability benefits insurance, including an extensive library of free safety and risk management materials available to all Internet users, and to provide more electronic services for claimants, policyholders, brokers and medical providers to make doing business with NYSIF easier. The result of this effort led to more online traffic and transactions, as well as earning nysif.com a 2006 communications award from the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds.

Also in 2006, NYSIF again led all carriers in New York State with a record-setting 148 arrests generated by NYSIF workers’ compensation fraud cases, resulting in restitution and estimated future savings of $17 million.

The report illustrates NYSIF’s priority in providing quality service with several examples of customer testimonials through excerpted letters such as this one: “The consistent level of support [we receive] from your team allows us to work at our fullest capacity, without worrying about administrative errors, unaccommodating underwriters, rude receptionists, and other hindrances that are…unfortunately rife within the insurance world.”

The NYSIF 2006 Annual Report is available free for download in PDF format at nysif.com. “We hope the report conveys a sense of NYSIF’s responsibility to the workers’ compensation and disability benefits insurance markets in New York State, and we encourage any business to take full advantage of the informational and workplace safety resources we make available online,” CEO Wehner said.
