NYSIF Adds New Online Service for Medical Providers - Explanation of Benefits

August 30, 2007

New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF) Executive Director/CEO David P. Wehner today announced a new Explanation of Benefits (EOB) online tool for medical providers. The EOB resource allows providers to obtain a detailed, printable itemization of all NYSIF payments included in a medical provider check.

“This new online service will allow health care providers to ensure payments are applied appropriately, saving time for themselves and NYSIF,” said CEO Wehner. “We encourage all medical providers who do business with NYSIF to take advantage of this valuable feature, which can be found at www.nysif.com/eob.”

To utilize the service, medical providers need their provider payee Tax ID Number, the NYSIF check/draft number, and the last four digits of the Social Security Number for any claimant included in the payment.

Providers will then be able to access the following:

  • Payment date and amount
  • Claimant name and claim number
  • NYSIF case manager and telephone number
  • NYSIF bill number, date and receipt date
  • Date of service
  • Code billed
  • Amount charged
  • Amount paid
  • Reason for partial payment or no payment

NYSIF is a non-profit agency of the State of New York that was created as part of the Workers' Compensation Law of 1914. By law, NYSIF is a competitive insurance carrier that sells workers' compensation and disability benefits insurance to any employer doing business in New York State. Approximately 192,000 employers hold NYSIF workers' compensation insurance policies (approximately 37 percent of the market), while 57,000 have active disability benefits policies.
