Fraud > DCI

The Division of Confidential Investigations

DCI staff train and work closely with NYSIF Claims, Underwriting and Premium Audit departments to detect, document and report instances of suspected fraud. Most of DCI's referrals come from personnel in these departments who act as the "eyes and ears" for NYSIF in the early detection of fraudulent transactions, a crucial part of NYSIF's fight against fraud.

DCI has built its reputation on an aggressive pursuit of workers' compensation fraud. DCI has participated in every major recent fraud sweep across the state, with DCI cases accounting for a large number of the arrests.

DCI's primary mission is to investigate cases of suspected fraud and refer completed investigations for criminal prosecution. DCI works very effectively in cooperation with the New York State Insurance Department Frauds Bureau, the Workers' Compensation Inspector General, and prosecutors and law enforcement agencies throughout New York and in other states.

DCI Director Laurence LaPointe joined NYSIF in 1998. Mr. LaPointe is a former prosecutor and director of the New York State Insurance Department Frauds Bureau.

NYSIF investigates workers' compensation fraud for NYSIF policies and claims. If you have information regarding any type of fraud, report it to NYSIF.
