Domestics

Premium for Domestic policies is primarily based on per-capita basis or number of domestics. There are 2 basic categories of domestics- inside and outside.

  • Inside domestics are employees exclusively engaged in household or domestic work. Examples include a cook, housekeeper, laundry worker, maid, butler or babysitter.

    - Code 0913 Inside domestic who works in excess of 20 hours a week.

    - Code 0908 Inside domestic who works 20 hours or less a week

  • Outside domestics are employees exclusively employed in household or domestic work performed primarily outside the house. Examples include a private chauffeur and a gardener.

    - Code 0912 Outside domestic who works in excess of 20 hours a week.

    - Code 0909 Outside domestic who works 20 hours or less a week.

For domestic codes 0913 or 0912, count the number of full time employees that concurrently worked in excess of 20 hours a week. Next, enter the payroll paid, the number of employees and locations indicated for the period listed at the top of the report. List the number of concurrent full-time domestics under total.

For domestic codes 0909 or 0908, determine the total number of hours worked (on average) per week and divide by 20. List the number under total. For less than 1, enter a minimum number of 1. E.g. For a total of 80 hours, the number entered would be 4. Next, enter the payroll paid, number of employees and locations indicated for the period listed at the top of the report.

Last, remember to sign and date the bottom of the completed report and return to NYSIF within 30 days. In order to expedite the processing of your payroll report, please make sure your report is complete and signed. Incomplete or unsigned payroll reports will be returned.

Note: Failure to return payroll reports for one or more policy periods may result in an estimated earned premium billing at a higher premium cost.
