Scott B. Melvin, of New York County, serves as the Executive Deputy Commissioner for the New York State Department of Labor.

Mr. Melvin has more 25 years of experience in local and State government. Prior to the current job, he was the Chief of Staff at the Department for Commissioner Roberta Reardon. In this role, he has advised the Commissioner on the Department’s policy agenda, managed executive and senior level staff members, and oversaw external stakeholder engagement. Previous to that role, he worked for three years on programmatic issues including helping the formerly incarcerated return to the workforce.

Prior to joining the Department of Labor, Mr. Melvin worked for the Speaker of the New York City Council as the Director of Councilstat. At the time this innovative application was launched, New York City Council District Offices used it to enter and track constituent issues that can range from affordable housing, to potholes and pedestrian safety. Before that, Mr. Melvin was the Director of Constituent Services for a local State Senator.

Mr. Melvin lives in the West Side of Manhattan with his husband.
