Diversity, Equity And Inclusion at NYSIF

NYSIF prioritizes and champions diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) throughout our agency. We provide equal opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, religion, color, age, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran status, or any other protected category under federal, state, and local law.

Our commitment encompasses these principles:

  • We believe that embracing our differences bring richness, new ideas and experiences to NYSIF, which energizes a creative and innovative work environment.
  • We strive to foster a workplace where diverse individuals can participate fully in the decision-making process and have ample opportunity for advancement.
  • We are committed to investing the necessary resources and attention to improving the engagement, retention, and promotion of the extraordinary talent we have.

Diversity encompasses a group of individuals with unique characteristics whose combined contributions support agencies in meeting and exceeding their organizational goals.

Equity refers to fairness and justice to enable success for all individuals.

Inclusion is a process that cultivates an environment where everyone feels that they are valued and respected.

Strategic Plan

NYSIF's Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan outlines the priorities and goals as NYSIF continues to cultivate and promote a diverse and inclusive culture where each employee feels welcomed, celebrated and empowered to be their authentic self.

The aim of NYSIF Strategic plan is to build upon Executive Order 187, “Ensuring Diversity and Inclusion and Combating Harassment and Discrimination in the Workplace,” and align NYSIF diversity and inclusion goals with the statewide goals. The priorities defined in this plan direct us at recognizing our past successes and exploring new opportunities to take NYSIF to the next level in its efforts to enhance leadership, its workforce, the NYSIF work culture, and to build an inclusive community through our programs and services.

The plan focuses on:

  • Informed and committed leadership to promote diversity and inclusion values.
  • Diversity and inclusion awareness trainings for managers.
  • Reviewing policy to ensure compliance with legislative and executive directives.
  • Dedicate resources and allocate them to sustain the organizational change.
  • Having collective accountability in order to identified opportunities and transformed them into solutions.
  • Provide training programs for employees and leadership to encourage understanding and build awareness.
  • Integrating diversity and inclusion principles with program planning and business objectives.
  • Evaluating outcomes via data collection, reporting and employee and customer feedback.

A model employer for people with disabilities

NYSIF is committed to the proposition that every individual has an equal opportunity to enjoy a full and productive life. In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, NYSIF will not discriminate against individuals with disabilities, in its services, programs, activities, benefits, hiring or employment practices.

NYSIF utilizes a strategic plan that will build upon Executive Order 31, issued by Governor Kathy Hochul on July 27, 2023, “Committing New York State to Becoming a Model Employer for People with Disabilities” to continue to take the necessary steps to improve the hiring, inclusiveness, and retention of people with disabilities. We believe that embracing our differences brings richness, new ideas and experiences to NYSIF, which energizes a creative and innovative work environment. We strive to foster a workplace where diverse individuals are able to participate fully in the decision-making process and have ample opportunity for advancement. We are committed to investing the necessary resources and attention to improving the engagement, retention, and promotion of the extraordinary talent we have. Visit NYSIF's Career Opportunities page for a list of open recruitments and to view NYSIF's EO 31 Strategic Plan.

NYSIF will provide appropriate aids and services and make reasonable modifications to policies, programs and facilities for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in NYSIF’s programs, services and activities.

MWBE and SDVOB Participation

NYSIF’s commitment to DEI extends beyond our hiring practices into the procurement arena. NYSIF has exceeded the Governor’s Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (SDVOBs) utilization goals each year since 2013. NYSIF encourages participation by MWBEs and SDVOBs in its procurement projects and has been lauded for its contributions to these programs.
