As a large insurer with a public purpose, NYSIF is uniquely positioned to leverage its data to inform the broader conversation on Long Covid. Earlier this year we published a report analyzing our own Long Covid claims data and found that almost one-third of all claimants, 31% or 977, suffered or are suffering from Long Covid. We continue to explore the impact of Long Covid - on families, the workplace, health care providers and employers.

NYSIF Video: Long Covid's Impact on the Workforce
Recently, NYSIF hosted a panel of public health and policy professionals to discuss Long Covid's impact on the workforce. Our panelists included experts from the NYS Department of Health, Harvard, Mount Sinai, Cornell and the Urban Institute, along with a business owner currently experiencing the effects of living with Long Covid.
The goal of this conversation was to provide a more in-depth look at how Long Covid affects people's daily lives – especially their work life – and ultimately how we can help employers understand how to support their workers with Long Covid.
We invite you to view the video above and hear directly from our panelists how Long Covid's lasting impact is affecting the nation's workforce.

NYSIF Report: Shining a Light on Long Covid
In January 2023, NYSIF released a report analyzing its Covid-19 workers' compensation claims to shine a light on Long Covid, a multifaceted syndrome causing new, returning, or ongoing symptoms in people after their initial infection. The report found that almost one-third of all claimants, 31% or 977, suffered or are suffering from Long Covid. In addition, approximately 18% of claimants with Long Covid—about 5% of Covid-19 claimants—have been unable to return to work for more than one year.
